FAQs: Writing coaching and publishing

This is the place for the answers to all your questions: How long does it take to write a book? How do I get published? What’s the difference between traditional publishing, self publishing, and hybrid publishing? Why should I write  business book and so on.

How long does it take to write a book?

According to a recent survey, the average business book takes 7 years to write! Of these only 1% actually manage to get it written, and 80% of business owners believe, rightly so, that other books out there aren’t as good as theirs.

At Writing Dr we turn this into a 3-month process, so you can get your book out there doing things for you instead of being on your to do list.

Why should I write a business book?

If you were to choose between two companies, one without a book and one with a book, you are far more likely to go with the company who has the authority and credibility of their own book. A Book sets you above your competitors, it turns you in the leader in your field, giving you that authority. You demonstrate your expertise and showcase your products and services.

While you sleep, your ideal client has access to you 24/7, your book telling your story, building know, like, and trust with your clients, and the ultimate personal branding tool.

Is writing a business book worth it for my business?

Yes, if your goal is visibility, authority, or lead generation. In addition to proving your the go-to in your field, business books often deliver value through opportunities they create. Opening doors on podcasts, media opportunities, speaking positions, and, and partnerships.

The value of the book is in increasing your leads, and a well written book improving your conversions too. So the ROI comes from a uptake in clients rather than direct book sales alone.

What services does Writing Dr offer?

With their years of experience, Nicola and Peter can offer a hands-on approach with all aspects of the writing and publishing process.

If you’ve got the ideas but lack the time or confidence, Writing Dr can write or co-write for/with you.

If you’ve got the writing part down but require professional guidance to keep you on track, Writing Dr can offer coaching. With easy, reliable communication, Nicola and Peter will cheer you on while fixing up any dodgy bits of your writing and ultimately publishing your book.

If you’d prefer to publish by another means, Writing Dr offers coaching services without the publishing part at the end.

If you’re ready for publishing, Writing Dr can provide that. You’ll get proofreading and formatting before your book is published.

Who would benefit from Writing Dr’s services?

Our services are ideal for coaches, entrepreneurs, and businesses or business owners who are looking to build authority and credibility through a professional written business book.

How long should a business book be?

Book lengths vary, but a general rule for business books is 30,000 words, with each chapter typically ranging from 1,000 to 1,500 words.

Do I have to write my entire business book myself?

Not at all! You choose the level of involvement that you’d like Writing Dr to have. We can ghostwrite your entire book, co-write alongside you, or offer advice and support via coaching while you write.

What publishing formats do you support?

We offer eBook, paperback, and hardback publishing formats.

What type of publishing do you offer?

Here at Writing Dr, we offer hybrid publishing services. This means that you’ll receive professional support with coaching, writing, formatting, editing, and design, but you’ll retain the control to get your book published the way that you want it.

Where do I start with my business book?

The best place to start is with planning your business book. Outline your book’s purpose and target audience. Then work chapter by chapter, outlining in as much detail as you can. We have a book planner that can help with all of that.

Do I need to plan and outline before I start writing a business book?

It’s highly advisable that you do. Planning will help you to maintain a clear focus and structure.

Do I need to do research before writing a business book?

Absolutely. Your own experiences need to be backed up with research on the subject. Even if you’re a leading expert in your field, you should look at what business books are already out there and what does or doesn’t work for them.

How do I choose a topic for a business book?

Use your own expertise. The best business books address a specific challenge and offer practical insights and solutions into overcoming these.

Do I need a ghostwriter for my business book?

Not necessarily. Ghostwriters can benefit authors by saving them time with writing, or improving the clarity of their ideas to effectively communicate them. If you’re confident in your ability to write and have the time, you can do this yourself with a writing coach and editor.

What’s the difference between a ghostwriter and a writing coach?

Ghostwriters write the book on the author’s behalf. A writing coach guides the author through planning, drafting, and refining work. At Writing Dr, we offer both services.

Should I hire professional editing for my business book?

Professional support helps to identify and clear up any issues that your book may have. While you might perfectly understand your writing, editors can provide further clarity and touch up any imperfections with grammar or word choice.
